School Nutrition Action Group

The Laurel Avenue School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG) was formed a number of years ago when the school started working towards the Healthy Schools Award. The SNAG is a group of staff and children who work together on activities which promote being healthy, whether that is through special food events in school, or encouraging children to cook at home or through physical activities. The aim is to encourage active learning about nutrition and health for children at Laurel Avenue. Our SNAG also work hard with Taylor Shaw who provide our school meals and Mrs Bell our school Cook to represent the views of children in school. This representation has had a very positive impact on the school lunch experience at Laurel Avenue Community Primary School. Our SNAG regularly review the menus to make sure they contain the meals that our children love the best!

Our SNAG are: Logan Crampton, Scarlett Pallister, Kaiden Watkinson, Anas Sadiq, Ellie Storey and Katelyn Scorer with Mrs Bell and Mrs Elliott from Taylor Shaw.

Over the past couple of years the SNAG team have worked with the teachers and children at Laurel Avenue to put together a variety of food and/or health related events and activities. These include organising themed lunches, including Bonfire Night, Red Nose Day, Valentine's Day and Easter.

It has been important for the SNAG to involve children in its planning, to try to ensure that any events being planning were what the children actually wanted. Meeting with the School Council produced many wonderful and exciting ideas including renaming the school dining hall to 'Lunch @ LA' and organising a sponsored event to pay for the purchase of plates and bowls, replacing the yellow trays we were all keen to see go!
